The water quality of the Rapel reservoir was assessed by using two well-known spectral indices of water quality parameters simultaneously sensitive to algae density, suspended sediments and colored dissolved organic matter parameters, derived from a Landsat multitemporal satellite image set acquired with a near-decadal frequency between 1975 and 2016. Both indices exhibited a clear average diminishing trend in the water quality for the whole study period, showing some hikes in their values for specific time intervals. Some discrepancies were found in the spatial and temporal behavior of both indices which remarks the need of validate them by field-based data. The results mostly agree with previous findings, standing out the usefulness of this kind of remote sensing techniques for the quality assessment of water bodies.
