Current models propose that rotations in CARP were entirely Cenozoic and largely accomplished in a single Paleogene event. Our data indicate that each of the Peruvian, K-T and Incaic deformation events contributed to CARP, with each event generating a non-uniform pattern of rotations which was superimposed on prior rotations in a non-uniform manner.

| We dedicate this paper to the loving memory of our friend and teacher Ruben Somoza. This research was partially funded by ANPCyT PICT2012-1302 and support for AT was provided by the National Subdirection of Geology, SERNAGEOMIN. We thank S. Geuna, L. Gallo and A. Rapalini for reading and improving the manuscript. Super IAPD software packages by Torsvik (NGU) and Remasoft program (AGICO SA) were used to analyze the data. Carlos A. Vazquez and Matias Naselli kindly collaborated during preparation of samples and running of hysteresis loops. Discussion with them of some rock magnetic results are also acknowledged. Thanks to the two anonymous referees for provided careful and constructive reviews to our manuscript. |
