From the second half of the 1850s, the construction and subsequent commissioning of the Central Railway Station Complex began in the city of Santiago. Thus, the city not only extended its urban radius to the west, but also located in that sector the nerve center of the railway activity, due to the convergence of the two most important rail routes in the country. From the analysis of diverse documentary sources such as the archive of the Ministry of the Interior, the Acts of the National Congress, Reports of the Railway Companies and the newspaper El Ferrocarril, it is intended to reconstruct one of the most important milestones of the national railway history. The arrival of the railroad to the capital, not only marked the expansion of this means of transport, but also the integration of a sector until that peripheral moment of the urban area, which with the passing of the decades was positioned as an essential point within the network urban of the capital of Chile.
