The goal of this research was to study Ni and Cr2O3/carbon and Cr2O3/Al2O3 catalysis for combustion of toxic CH2Cl2. The catalysts were characterized using physical adsorption of N2, benzene hydrogenation and X-ray diffraction. In all the catalysts the surface area decreased and there was microporous occlusion. The compounds NiO, Ni(OH)2 and Cr2O3 were detected by X-ray diffraction in the calcined catalysts. For the Ni catalysts a proportional relation was found between the metallic content, the Ni dispersion and the conversion below 350°C due to presence of Ni crystalites. The Cr2O3/AlO3 catalysts showed conversions higher than those for Cr2O3/carbon catalysts when the reaction temperature was increased to 400°C.
