A pilot plant was designed and constructed for the handling of newtonian fluids. The unit permits the study of different aspects of a transport system, such as flows, pressure drops, calculation of friction coefficients in pipefittings, coefficients of discharge in head meters and rotameters, types of flow, and power evaluation. The unit was specifically tested with three fluids: water, mineral oil, and air. Friction coefficient values were obtained for various pipefittings using the pilot plant. In addition to the experimental work, the creation of a simulator in a network environment was included, making use of the advantages of the VRML (Virtual Reality Model Language) package, where explorations and virtual analyses could be carried out, with the aim of aiding in the formation of engineering students.
