Background: Transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) is a noninvasive imaging technique and is proposed for intraoperative use by anesthesiologists. Objective: To evaluate the feasibility of using focused TTE considering the quality and quantity of facoustic windows obtained during intraoperative period. Material and Method: Patientes were prospectively studied with a transthoracic ultrasound transducer following a focused protocol of echocardiographic planes and images. Results: A total of 114 patients were studied, 58 women and 56 men, mean age 63 ± 14 years. Seventy were ASA II and 38 ASA III. Patients were studied intraoperatively under general anesthesia, sedation and regional anesthesia. In 98% of the patients it was possible to obtain at least one group of images of good quality. Conclusion: Transthoracic echocardiography was possible to conduct during the intraoperative period and could provide at least two acoustic windows in most patients.
