The development of psychological thought, deployed in Europe, presented a far-reaching influence on the improvement of the (at that point) new chilean psychology, from the mid-nineteenth century to early twentieth century. It was spread by means of the hard work done by the first generation of professionals, allowing the inclusion of different approaches in psychology that were mainly reflected in philosophy and education. This work focuses on exploring the connections between Andrés Bello and the british psychology; Juan Serapio Lois and French Positivism; the adaptation of the Binet-Simon intelligence test and the German legacy carried out by Romulo Peña in Santiago, and Jorge Enrique Schneider and Wilhelm Mann in Copiapo, in addition to the important influence of Valentin Letelier, which contributed to the progress of psychology in the Pedagogical Institute of the University of Chile. Keywords: psychology, Chile, history of psychology, Europe.
