Authority quotations constitute an important part -and until now, not sufficiently studied- of Cautiverio feliz by Francisco Núñez de Pineda y Bascuñán. These quotations come both from the Bible and from numerous profane and ecclesiastic authors. Among the latter, Ovid, and in particular, fragments from his Tristia and Ex Ponto deserves special recognition. This paper analyses the diverse procedures of appropriation and re-contextualization of the latin author's verses developed by the author of Cautiverio; at the same time, a justification of Pineda's marked inclination towards the so called 'exile poetry' in the Ovidian corpus is outlined.
