In big parts of Chile a standardized cadaster does not exist. For this reason, the topic of the joint research project of Universität der Bundeswehr München and Universidad de Concepción (Chile) is an investigation to what extent a pilot cadaster in Los Ángeles (Chile) may be realized. The main problem is the fragmentation of responsibilities in the area of real estate documentation and the resulting different concepts of the structure of cadaster, its actualization and the legal framework. Accordingly, a cadaster in the legal sense of German law cannot be installed. On the other hand, Chile recognized the importance of GIS and in consequence the initial objective of the project is the foundation of a cadaster as basic geographic information system. Therefor a series of digital data is available. However, the accuracy, integrity and reliability of those data have to be improved significantly.
