The MACI is a clinical assessment tool of personality, originally built in United States to assess psychological maladjustment in adolescents, which has extended its use to Latin America. This article presents an overview of the development of MACI in Chile, one of the pioneers in incorporating the test into Latin America. Chronologically, this revision addresses the most relevant contributions of MACI's adaptation to the Chilean population, its extension for studying different groups of adolescents, the methodologies used to cover the wide range of alternatives within the psychological functioning in adolescence, and the normative study for Chilean population. It highlights the current research related to the influence of Latin American culture in the test expressed through a group of scales that have been called escalas contra-teóricas (against-theory scales) and its interpretation. Finally, this development is evaluated considering the current challenges around assessing adolescent personality and the specificity of Latin American culture.
