The purpose of this work is to characterize the sedimentary infill of Santiago basin, Central Chile, as part of the research "Geophysical characterization of Santiago basin for estimating seismic risk". This study presents the analysis of 47 TEM soundings covering an area of about 30 × 50 [km2]. The resulting 1-D models show a trend of shallow high resistivity values to the south (100-200 [ohm m]) and low resistivity values to the north (5-40 [ohm m]). This is consistent with surface distribution of unconsolidated deposits, highlighting a clear difference in the contributions of alluvial and fluvial deposits from the Maipo and Mapocho rivers. Static levels depths taken as an approximation of phreatic level in the basin, show good agreement with most of the TEM measurements. The resistivity models show a heterogeneous basin with varying thickness sedimentary infill in the east and west of the studied area of more than 100 [m]. The presence of basement in central part of the basin is difficult to resolve, while at the edges it is found at depths of 100 to 250 [m]. Finally, the results of this study will be correlated with gravity and Electrical Resistivity Tomography works, part of the same research project. In order to generate a better understanding of the seismic behavior of the Santiago basin, to explain the existence of areas with different levels of damage seismic, density and resistivity geophysical models.
