This article presents a reflection on the intersection of the fields of art and theology, based on an analysis of some historical, pictorial and theological aspects of the icon painting tradition. We show that the icon painting tradition finds its basis in the historical event of the Incarnation, imbuing this fundamental event in Christian Revelation with a profound aesthetic dimension.
