Natural disasters in Chile are common. These not only damages population and cities, but also the network. These events can destroy most devices in a scpecific geographical area, affecting people communication and many network based application. This paper proposes the use of SDN to improve network resilience and quality of service in the chilean network. Features, challenges and existing relevant studies are analyzed in order to understand the actual development of SDN in this area and, in a future work, design a disasterresilient chilean network with software-defined networking.
