In an environment where most newborns separated from their families are institutionalized, the authors introduce a psychotherapeutical model which aims to prevent and to mitigate the development of Early Chronic Emotional Deprivation. The model is sustained by Esther Bick’s criteria on the baby observation methodology, post-Kleinian authors and the contributions of French psychoanalysis. This article describes the methodology and the role of the clinical psychologist. It also includes a clinical resume that depicts some usual difficulties faced by the professional while performing his role.
