Objective: To determine if bilateral salpingectomy, as a method to prevent serous ovarian carcinoma, has any negative effect on the ovarian reserve of patients who underwent surgical sterilization with this technique at the Gynecology service of the Hospital Universitario de Caracas from April 2016 to June 2016. Methods: Bilateral salpingectomy through colpotomy was performed in 30 patients who desired surgical sterilization. Ovarian reserve was measured using follicle stimulating hormone (FSH), antral follicle count and ovarian volume, baseline and 3 months after surgery. Results: No statistically significant difference was found in the variables which measure ovarian reserve when comparing the baseline with the values obtained 3 months after surgery. Conclusions: Bilateral salpingectomy does not have any deleterious effect on ovarian reserve. This surgery could be used as a method of prophylaxis of epithelial ovarian cancer, and as a definitive contraceptive method without affecting ovarian reserve.
