The role of the outgroup threat perception and nature of intergroup contact in the affective prejudice experienced by Chilean natives towards three Latin American migrant groups (from Peru, Bolivia and Colombia) living in the northern region is analyzed. Four hundred and twenty participants answered a questionnaire with different items and scales to measure the variables of interest. The results indicate moderate scores on all the variables of the study, non-significant differences depending of migrant group evaluated, significant relationships between the variables, and a significant percentage of variance of affective prejudice experienced towards migrants explained by the variables realistic threat and nature of intergroup contact. The results and their implications are discussed in the light of the available psychosocial literature.
