The importance that the ancestors would have had on the pre-Hispanic community of San Lorenzo, Azapa Valley, North of Chile, is dicussed. To that end, different types of funeral contexts found burials found in the settlement of San Lorenzo (Az- 11) in the cemetery Az-75 and Az-76 were analyzed. The compared data of some representative tombs were related to models of building, dimensions, location and interaction in the space. This information was processed from an existing topographic map, complemented with new data about funerary practices inthe village populations from Azapa Valley. The above information plus the characteristics of the environment of the settlement has been essential for the approach on how could have interacted the populations of San Lorenzo with their dead and the importance that these would have had in the transformation of their history. Finally, from the historical perspective this coexistence was not a spontaneous relationship, but a relationship originated from a process dated back from the beginnings of the agricultural development of the Azapa Valley.
