The aim of this paper is to present the figure of the Byzantine emperor Heraclius and the problem of the legendary tradition that developed around it. Considering the insufficiency of studies -particularly in Spanish- on this subject, first I will provide a brief historical introduction about Heraclius, then a review of the main studies about him, his reign and legend, as a "state of the art". Finally, some questions, problems, and possibilities of research on this field.
