In the area of Postcolonial Studies, Cultural Studies and the New Narrative of historiographic theme, we propose a brief critical overview on the representation of slavery and its relation with the image of Africa in the contemporary imaginary. The corpus selected is constituted by the following novels: The kingdom of this world (1949) of the Cuban Alejo Carpentier; Changó, the great whores (1984) of the Colombian Manuel Zapata Olivella; A glorious family (1997) of the Angolan Pepetela; Rosalía the infamous (2003) of the Haitian Évelyne Trouillot and A defect of color (2006) of the Brazilian Ana Maria Gonçalves. Through this interdisciplinary approach, we make a critical reading of the past slave and outline a diversified literary corpus of works related to the issue of slavery. The relevance lies in the fact that the narrative approach simulates a first person, that is to say, it is carried away from testimonies of stories of the survivors of the slave system itself, in order to reinterpret the knowledge of the past and give different perspectives on it, and, at the same time, to destabilize the discourses on slavery.
