Eosinophilic colitis is a rare disease and is characterized by eosinophilic infiltration of tissues. It can affect any segment of the gastrointestinal tract, but most commonly the stomach and small intestine and rarely in colon. The case of a patient, feminine sex, aged 49, controlled as outpatient in 2013 with 4 months of diarrhea and diffuses abdominal pain. Analytic showed: absence of fecal leukocytes, intestinal parasitic, endomysial antibodies, gliadin, transglutaminase and immunoglobulin G negative, eosinophil blood count of 2.7%. Colonoscopy with biopsy confirmed eosinophilic colitis, beginning treatment with loperamide, which was not tolerated, and the therapy was changed to oral prednisone, which had good response. Eosinophilic gastroenteritis is a benign pathology, with significant infiltration of eosinophils into the gut wall, which rarely involves only the colon. Its causes and pathogenic mechanisms are unknown; classically occurs in patients between the third and fifth decade of life, although it can affect any age group. The diagnostic criteria are: 1) gastrointestinal symptoms; 2) eosinophilic infiltration of one or more gastrointestinal areas demonstrated by biopsy; 3) absence of eosinophil infiltration into organs outside the gastrointestinal areas; and 4) absence of parasite infection. Eosinophilic gastroenteritis are pathologies that require high index of suspicion for diagnosis and we have observed that the therapy with corticosteroids improved the symptoms, what matches with another clinical series.
