The article exposes the diverse traditions related to martyrdom present in the Gospel of Mark, giving its main characteristics, and the way the evangelist has used them. We believe that the evangelist has compiled and elaborated diverse martyrial traditions, which coexist in tension in the text of the gospel. The evangelist concentrates his story on the death of Christ by developing these traditions of martyrdom by radicalizing the apocalyptic tradition of the passion of the righteous. The story of the passion of the Son of Man assumes various themes and apocalyptic schemes, the death of the righteous radicalized by the eschatological context that produces this event of death Son of man.
