In recent years, urban segregation has become a central debate topic in Latin America in social sciences, particularly in urban studies. Regardless of the analysis approach, the authors interpret this phenomenon as a spatial injustice. On the other hand, neighborhood resistance to real estate pressure is seen as a struggle for the right to the city and therefore as a fair and necessary process. Based on a literature review in and about Chile and a case study in Santiago de Chile, the article aims to show that neighborhood resistance can also be interpreted as a form of segregation in the city. The paper seeks to discuss and question the idea of urban segregation in its traditionally classist and materialist conceptions.
