The presence of Third World social scientists in the journals Tiers Monde in Paris and Third World Quarterly in London is studied. Considering the period 1979-1983, the number of articles written by authors from Africa, Asia and Latin America and the Caribbean, among other indicators, is quantified. It is established that both journals provided an important space for peripheral social science, which is evident when compared with the US journal Social Forces. The results are linked to the discussion about academic dependency, suggesting that these journals stimulated, and did not block, the inclusion of Third World social scientists into the First World.
