We report five cases of cutaneous anthrax attended in the Hospital Regional de Temuco. One of them arrived to the hospital unconcious, with high fever, negative meningeal signs and without focal neurologic deficit. There were two small lesions in the right arm: one eschar on the right thumb and one hemorrhagic vesicle on the wrist. The hemorrhagic CSF was teemed with a great number of large gram positive rods. The cultures of CSF and blood were positive for B. anthracis. The patient died in spite of support measures and treatment with high dosis of penicillin. He was an agricultural worker who has been skinning a cow dead after a rapid disease. The other four patients also had skin lesions in the arms, that were multiple in three of them. Two of them had painful swelling of axillary nodes. One patient died three days after being hospitalized, without response to penicillin in high doses. The post mortem exam confirmed the diagnosis. The other patients had a benign course under antibiotic treatment. All of them had skinned a cow found dead without an identifiable cause
