Considering that the experiences are the indivisible unit between the personal and situational characteristics that people experience, the purpose of this research is to describe the experiences of families that have children with Down syndrome. The design is descriptive qualitative, and was oriented from the multiple case study design, with semi-structured and in-depth interviews. The research analysis plan is implemented from the grounded theory, constant comparative method and theoretical sampling, making an open and axial coding that allows the generation of theories, through the software atlas.ti version 7.0. It was concluded that the experiences of families with a child with Down syndrome are constituted by outstanding moments in family life, such as birth, family mourning and upbringing. Families in the process of coping, acceptance and upbringing of the child with Down Syndrome manage to order their hearts according to intransable values and transcendents such as love, respect and honesty. In relation to this, the mothers are the ones who present a work postponement, related to the greater time that they must dedicate to the upbringing of the child with Down Syndrome, as opposed to one that does not have it. Finally, it was empirically confirmed that society as a whole is not prepared to live with valuable people, such as those with Down syndrome, since intellectual value prevails and this opinion of others affects the acceptance of the child by part of the parents.
