Our personal name is a text marker that we are given since we are born. This conditions our standing in the world. Gabriela Mistral rejects her original name and explains the meaning of her self-denomination in Poema de Chile. In this selection of poems, this self-naming act constitutes a sort of compensation, a reinstatement of the real name that was taken away from her. This modern act of self-denomination constitutes a reflexive prerogative towards the discredit and insults she received in a previous representative position. Therefore, the spectrum claims her place, her heritage; she demands the reconstitution of the shattered body, in addition to the reinstatement of her possessions and her name.
