The study of building materials is an area little explored by historical and archaeological studies in Chile, despite the importance of this matter has for other disciplines such as architecture, engineering and historical geography. A better understanding of the architectural and technologies associated with the manufacture, use and abandonment of bricks and tiles for the construction of houses or buildings during the Colonial period in Valdivia traditions, we will help us better understand the permanence or changes in constructive ways Valdivia during early Republican period and the stage of industrial heyday. Also, the characterization of building materials is a necessary knowledge in the development of actions and programs for conservation and valorisation increasingly frequent.
