This article examines Roberto Bolano's Estrella distante (1996), in order to study the way in wich a fictional text produces individual and collective memory. My idea is to use Hugo Vezzetti's suggestion of the three variants of memory as an axis to analize how Bolano constructs a narrative that aims at the critical revision of the Chilean past. Particularly the recent past: the period of the military dictatorship. Estrella distante, according to my proposal, acts like a possible site of discursive overcoming of a collective trauma.
