The species composition, geographical distribution and abundance of the euphausiids, captured in 64 sampling stations between Valparaiso (33 degrees 0'S, 71 degrees 40'W), Juan Fernandez Archipelago (33 degrees 37'S, 68 degrees 49'W) and Desventuradas Islands (26 degrees 20'S, 80 degrees 00W) between September and October 2000, were described. Between euphausiids adults, a total of 22 species belonging to six genera were identified ( Euphausia, Nematobrachion, Nematoscelis, Stylocheiron, Thysanoessa and Thysanopoda). The higher abundance was found near Valparaiso ( 6,238 ind 1000 m(-3)), only integrated by Euphausia mucronata (62,3%). The captures were influenced by the diel vertical migration, which generated a horizontal discontinuity in the distribution of most of the euphausiids, due to the sampling depth (0-200 m). An inverse correlation was established between the abundance of E. mucronata and Nematoscelis megalops and the dissolved oxygen concentration.
