This article examines the characteristics of the nineteenth-century editorial project of the Revista del Pacifico (Valparaiso, 1858-1861) to expose and explain the scope of its programmatic proposal around the construction of a transnational and american republic of letters. At the same time, the analysis seeks to discover the existing tensions between the achievement of this editorial objective and the magazine's need to act as an opposition platform against Manuel Montt's government. In this way, it will be evident that only after overcoming the dominion of the conservative ideas represented by the president and his followers, the possibility of materializing this new republic in the country will be opened from the press.
