The Sociedad Explotadora de Tierra del Fuego during its long life was both the largest land holding (as owner and leases), and the largest producer of livestock in Chile, in amount and quality of its production. As such, it was also a crucial undertaking for economic development during the period that elapsed between 1893 and 1973, highlighted by its progressive mark. The article discusses their existence, from an historical perspective made with a reflective view on what were its defining characteristics with regard to the settlement project that gave it origin, with the nationality of the entity and the formation and evolution of their founded heritage; to the production technology and its outcomes, its people over time, as the final avatar who finished with land reform, which determined its legal termination and, finally, what can be had as its historical legacy.
