In De Synodic Hilary of Poitiers sought to attract the homoiousians towards accepting the Nicene formula. In order to do so, he explained that the Nicene sense of homoousious was not monarchian, as they feared. In addition, he said that what is passed down through generations does not allow changes in the nature of what is transmitted; the son is always of the same nature as his father. Moreover, divine nature cannot be compared, and, thus, what is transmitted by the father to the Son can only be his own. In such conditions, homoiousious is equivalent to homoousious.
